Cameron Road, Te Puke at 3.00pm Sunday 9th Dec
Allan’s property has a suffering kiwifruit block and a “raw in the making” tree cropper’s mixed planting. This autumn over 100 different fruit and nut trees were planted under quite challenging conditions. There are some established trees and Allan is hoping some of the plums can be identified for him. As well as the common fruiting plants there is cherimoya, inga bean, sugar cane, bananas, babaco and two jelly palms. As well as interesting fruit salads Allan is looking forward to some “robust discussion” on the care, suitability etc of his plantings.
Sausages, bread, soft and hot drinks will be supplied. Bring a salad or desert to share, plates, utensils a glass and a chair. Allan has some but probably not enough for all. Bring other drinks and extra things to cook if you wish. For those brave enough, togs, as Allan has a swimming pool but also comments that that it’s always breezy so a warm jacket would be wise! Also sensible footwear as the property is quite steep.
How to get there:
From the north as you are heading into Te Puke pass the caravan parks on the right, count the next road as no1 (Te Puke Quarry Road) and Cameron Road is No 5. …drive down the long right of way drive and park on the lawn in front of the kiwifruit orchard.
From south drive thru the town and note Beatty Road on the left, Cameron Road is next left.
