Picnic among the vines, vineyard tour and opportunity to buy wines!
Field Day at Hitchen Road Vineyard, Hitchen Rd, Pokeno
12.30pm on Sunday 2nd December 2012
Come and start the pre-Christmas party season with a relaxing picnic lunch among the vineyards and then be informed and enjoy the enthusiasm of the Hitchen family as they discuss viticulture and wine making.
Hitchen Road Vineyard is a 5 acre vineyard on very favourable north facing slopes above the Pokeno Village, just south of the Bombay Hills. It is part of a 100 acre pastoral farm and has a beautiful view over the North Waikato. All the wines are hand crafted here from grapes that are grown on the property. The only process that takes place off site is bottling.
The Hitchens love Italian grape varieties and have planted Pinotage, Dolcetto, Mon-tepulciano, Sangiovese and Chardonnay. They are proud of the quality of their wines as each year they enter the competition associated with the annual Romeo Bragatto Conference and each year they receive medals. In 2011, they branched out and entered the New Zealand International Wine Show and were delighted when they received a silver medal for their 2010 Dolcetto. All their wines have had good reviews from Michael Cooper in his “Buyer’s Guide to NZ Wines 2012”. They are also reasonably priced so come prepared to taste and buy!
Bring a picnic lunch and a mug for tea/coffee as we will set up our urn and have afternoon tea together at the end.
