Organic Herbal Teas, Limes, Feijoas and Macadamias
1.30 pm Sunday 20th October 2013, Carol and Alan’s: Ararimu Road, Ararimu
In 2006 Alan and Carol left their 1⁄4 acre home in Bayswater to move to their 5 acre lifestyle property. It had lime, feijoa and macadamia orchards on it. After receiving good soil test results, Carol went ahead to prepare the property for Organic Certification. The property is now fully certified with OrganicFarmNZ.
They have planted a variety of fruit trees and a vege garden for family use. Animals provide manure, bees provide the necessary pollination. Now herbs are grown as a new venture of herbal tea making. They are in the process of putting up a greenhouse to cultivate plants for the property.
You will get to see and hear about the beginnings of this new project, the evolving of the property, the process of going organic and the hard work and pleasure of living on a ‘workstyle’ sorry lifestyle block. They both work outside the property. Alan does the lawn and maintenance and Carol the gardening. Expect to see weeds, unruly, unpruned fruit trees, no spraying done ever but lots of beauty.
This property is about the integrity of the soil, the quality of the produce and about creating healthy food for people to consume following organic principles and a balanced holistic approach to nature.
Bring a mug for a hot drink and wear suitable clothing for the day.
