Birchwood & Beehive Gardens
with renowned hazel grower Murray Redpath;
President of your NZ Tree Crops Association
10am-12noon – Birchwood visit
Thompson Road, Havelock North (off Napier Road at the Havelock North end).
Conrad and Verena have kindly invited us to view the remnants of the original Hazel Orchard (Appleby? Whiteheart? & pollinators) which are still being harvested.
We will also see a working hazel nutcracker, Orpington chooks and many unusual ornamental trees.
12.30-1.30pm – Beehive Gardens lunch
Take your picnic lunch to eat in Beehive Gardens. Lav available.
1.30-4pm – Hazel pruning Workshop, lead by Murray Redpath
Take your sharp clean loppers, secateurs, pruning saw and even chainsaw (with your safety gear or course) if you wish to refresh your pruning skills or to learn by practical experience.
Wet or fine event; if it is hosing down the Beehive Gardens Workshop will become a theoretical demonstration.
Cost = Treecrop members free, non-members $10 each
