October Field Trip
When: Saturday 12th October, 11am.
Where: Ranui Rd, Karetu, Bay of Islands.
What: Tree Crops member Fiona has invited us to visit her 14 acre
block in the Bay of Islands. The bay where she and her family live is at the
end of a peninsula across the water from Opua, and was an experimental
orchard many years ago. As well as different varieties of apples, pears,
plums and figs, there are more exotic trees such as pomegranates, walnuts,
big pecan trees, cherimoyas, guavas, persimmons, a huge custard apple,
lemons the size of soccer balls and other citrus.
The trees had become quite overgrown by the time Fiona and her family
took over the property and she is looking for suggestions on how to prune
and rejuvenate them, so there will be a session on this.
There will be a shared lunch, and we are welcome to swim if we would
like.
… It’s all sealed except for the last 8 km. Google
estimates it will take about an hour from Kamo. Contact Janet beforehand if
you want to carpool.
