We have two well developed properties in Manakau to visit
10:30am – Corbetts Road, Manakau
In the morning we will visit Ruth and Garry, recent owners of a very well established property which has many mature exotic trees as well as native trees and a beautifully designed garden area which has been used as a wedding venue in the past.
Ruth and Garry look forward to some suggestions about how to manage (remove or prune?) some of the older specimens. They also have an “empty” paddock in which they plan to develop an orchard.
Note: We will have our lunch at the second property at 12 noon.
12pm – Wi Tako Street, Manakau Village
In the afternoon we will at Lesley and Terry’s 9 acre property. This has been developed using permaculture and spray-free principles.
Native and exotic trees and plants are well established, attracting birds, bees and
beneficial insects. There are walnut trees and a variety of fruit trees. Half an acre of pond and waterway, with bridges and walkways, provides wildlife corridors and tranquil movement between different areas. They have a large vege garden, free range chooks and ducks, and Llamas (in a paddock).
