The Hazelnut Growers Association of NZ (HGANZ), supported by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) ‘Sustainable Farming Fund’ and the NZ Tree Crops Association (NZTCA), are producing a series of information bulletins highlighting the key aspects of growing hazelnuts in New Zealand.
To support these bulletins, three workshops will be held in the North Island. These workshops will offer land owners, land use planners, and food industry businesses who may be looking for local nut supplies a chance to meet and update themselves on the latest information on this new crop.
Murray Redpath, HGANZ (and former president of NZTCA), believes…
“ hazels could potentially deliver returns exceeding those from dairy farming if growers could achieve the yields and orchard management cost eficiencies seen in places like Chile and Oregon – which have similar environments to New Zealand… ”
Workshop dates:
Wairarapa Sunday, 29 May
Dannevirke Monday, 30 May
Rotorua Monday, 13 June
