Dear Branch Contacts,
Please ensure that your branch committee receive this information, enabling them to give your Delegate a directive to vote on your branch’s behalf.
Remit No 1
Remit from Central Otago Tree Growers
“That Management Committee review the participation of financial members in the affairs of the association at a national level”
Explanation:
1. Currently only Management Committee, branch delegates and representatives of action groups have voting rights at the AGM. Action groups are almost non-existent and with wider attendance at Conference it would seem reasonable to give a vote to all members attending.
2. Annual reports and financial accounts are circulated to delegates and those who attend the AGM. With improved electronic communications these documents could be made available to all members, without this material becoming public.
***The NZTCA Management Committee wish to add some input for consideration.
A lot of wisdom went into developing our Constitution and we need reminders from time to time, that the proper opportunity to contribute to the association’s direction is at branch committee meeting level – at Conference, delegates ratify guidance formally received beforehand from branch level. This ensures that each branch has equal influence on the outcome of the voting.
As a result of discussion at the 2008 National AGM the Annual Reports and financial accounts have subsequently been made more readily available to the members attending the AGM. Also, members are notified in the March TreeCropper that the Agenda and reports are available for viewing on the members’ section of the website.
Remit No 2
Remit from Franklin Branch
“Franklin Branch ask that NZTCA review the final version of the new Food Act and put forward a submission to Government if the Act’s proposals are detrimental to the interests of NZTCA members”.
