On behalf of Anna B and Nick:
Anna Brehnmull sends out interesting snippets of walnut information. Here are a couple of paragraphs out of the latest posting about record walnut values in the USA.
It’s no secret that agriculture drives the North State economy and 2011 was no different with Glenn, Tehama and Butte counties each setting new records for crop value bringing in a combined $1.5 billion.
One of the biggest reasons for the improvement was walnut prices, which helped push the crop to the top of the list in two of the three counties.
“It’s a nice place to be when you have large crops, coupled with a high price,” Chico walnut grower Jeff Cripe said.
Even the walnut farmers who are reaping the benefits of the high prices admit they probably won’t stay at the current levels, because more people are planting walnuts every year.
